Liverpool explore deal to buy club with ‘huge’ potential – sources
Liverpool are now exploring a deal to buy French club Amiens, sources have told Football Insider.
The second-tier side are seen as having huge potential despite failing to win promotion to Ligue 1 this season.
Football Insider revealed on 22 April that the Reds’ talks to buy Toulouse have now collapsed after negotiations stalled.
Fenway Sports Group and new football chief Michael Edwards are looking to strike a deal to purchase a French club as well as one in South America.
Former sporting director Edwards is returning to Anfield this summer, where he will begin a new role as CEO of Football from June.
Michael Edwards to help Liverpool owners buy new club
Liverpool are looking to act quickly after failing to agree a deal to buy Ligue 1 club Toulouse, who they played in the Europa League group stages this season.
Talks over a potential buyout were held with the French outfit as Fenway look to build a multi-club model, but those discussions haven’t proven successful.
The Reds’ owners have now shifted their attention to Amiens and will be counting on Edwards’s experience to get a deal over the line on his return to Merseyside.
He will oversee football operations for the US investment group, which Football Insider revealed last month is also exploring the possibility of buying an MLS club.

The new CEO of Football’s immediate attention will, however, be on securing an agreement with Amiens.
That would see the Anfield club link up again with former striker Andy Carroll, who is currently plying his trade in Northern France with the Ligue 2 club.
