‘Bottled it’, ‘Murder’, ‘Senseless’ – Liverpool fans savage attacker after 5-2 win v Roma
By Richard Parks
Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to pan Sadio Mane even though their team demolished Roma 5-2 in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday night.
Doubles from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, and a Mane goal, put Jurgen Klopp’s side in total control of the Anfield clash before two late Roma goals gave the shellshocked visitors a glimmer of hope ahead of the second leg in Italy next Wednesday.
Mane could have had four or five goals on a night when he was let down by his finishing as a Salah-inspired Liverpool ran amok in a truly compelling encounter.
The Senegal international missed two excellent chances before Salah produced a display that will go down in Anfield folklore.
This prompted a torrent of criticism of Mane, who played the full 90 minutes of the match while the PFA player of the year was substituted with 15 minutes remaining.
A section of Liverpool supporters on social media laid into Mane, with one claiming he had “bottled it” and another stating that he is “not good enough”.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
In other Liverpool news, the club are on the verge of signing a BRILLIANT Manchester City attacker in a deal that will be finalised in June.
