Liverpool fans react on Twitter as Klopp makes key selection for Everton clash
By Emma Sanders
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Simon Mignolet will retain his place in goal ahead of Loris Karius against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Monday evening – and fans reacted with relief on Twitter.
Karius came under huge criticism after he made a number of costly errors against Bournemouth and West Ham although it was a surprise when Klopp dropped him for the midweek Premier League clash against Middlesbrough.
Mignolet made an excellent save in the first-half and kept a clean sheet on his return as the Reds recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory at the Riverside stadium.
Klopp confirmed on Friday, as quoted by the personal Twitter account of Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce, that he will stick with Mignolet against Everton after he had a “really good game” against Boro,
His inclusion was slightly controversial, with some fans claiming Liverpool should back young Karius despite heavy criticism but following Mignolet’s assured performance, it has come as a relief that his will retain his place.
It is not the first time Liverpool have had issues with the number one position and Mignolet was himself dropped back in 2014 under Brendan Rodgers.
Brad Jones took his place before Mignolet returned and put in a string of much-improved performances so he knows how it feels to lose a position in the side.
Karius is still only 23 and Klopp hopes by protecting him, he will ensure the German can have a positive future with the club and many fans seem to agree with his decision to keep his faith in Mignolet.
