Liverpool fans react to Sturridge cameo against Everton

By Alex Stevens

Daniel Sturridge created a dramatic injury time winner for Liverpool in their 1-0 victory against Everton on Monday – and fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to him.

The England international made his return after a calf injury late in the second half when he replaced Adam Lallana.

Just when the match appeared to be drifting to a draw, Sturridge made space for himself with a run across the outside of he box and manufactured a long-ranger that was slightly mis-hit but evaded sub goalkeeper Joel Robles and rebounded off the post.

Sadio Mane reacted first and slammed in his eighth league goal of the season to seal the three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Fans took to social media to express their admiration for Sturridge’s ability to make an impact as a sub and break down a stubborn defence.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Sturridge has yet to score in the Premier League in a frustrating personal season but he has netted four times in the League Cup.

Liverpool secured their second consecutive clean sheet, following their 3-0 win over Middlesbrough last Wednesday, to climb to second in the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side narrowed the gap on leaders Chelsea to six points and go in to Christmas in the top two and with genuine title ambitions.

In other Liverpool news, this 25-year-old is the club’s player of the year for 2016.
