Liverpool fans stunned by wild new footage of Van Dijk ‘taking on the whole Nottingham Forest bench’
Liverpool fans on social media are loving new footage that shows Virgil van Dijk confronting Nottingham Forest staff after their 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon (2 March).
The Reds left it late to steal all three points at the City Ground with Darwin Nunez scoring the only goal of the game in the 99th minute.
However, the Uruguayanβs 10th goal of the season was clouded by controversy after referee Paul Tierney stopped the match minutes earlier during a Forest attack for an apparent head injury to Ibrahima Konate.
Forest were outraged that Liverpool received the ball when the game restarted, and the restart of play led several actions later to their winning goal in injury time.
Following the full-time whistle, Forest staff flooded the pitch to complain to Tierney about the decision with coach Steven Reid receiving a red card amid the chaos.
Forest chairman Evangelos Marinakis was also pictured on the pitch and reportedly followed Tierney into the tunnel to complain.
Footage from the incident also shows Liverpool star Van Dijk involved in heated arguments on the pitch with Forestβs staff.
Liverpool fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, liked what they saw from their club captain.
Liverpoolβs late winner kept them at the top of the Premier League table β four points ahead of Manchester City before their derby clash against Manchester United this afternoon.
The Reds are back in action against Sparta Praha in the Europa League on Thursday evening before a title clash against City next week.
