Expert salutes ‘great move’ for Liverpool as Ian Graham news confirmed

The appointment of a full-time academy data analyst is a “great move” for Liverpool.

That is the view of statistics expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Liverpool are looking to hire a full-time analyst to collect and scrutinise data from their youth setup, as per iNews last Thursday (26 May).

Ian Graham heads up Liverpool’s successful analysis department, and the move for an academy analyst is understood to be his brainchild.

News of the recruitment push was confirmed after Liverpool posted the vacancy on several job boards last Friday (27 May).

The Merseysiders have used data to great effect throughout the Jurgen Klopp regime.

And Dinnery insists that further instilling those metrics in the academy system can only be a positive development.

Through various age groups, you want to incorporate and underpin the principles of the first team,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“That means that when you’re transitioning through those various age groups, that step up becomes seamless.

“Once you reach that first team, you’ve been already part of that team for several years. You know how to move and the level of tactical awareness that is required.

“This is all about streamlining that process. It’s a blueprint for success. If it’s good enough for the first team, it makes sense to introduce things all the way through. I think it’s a great move.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, Rhys Williams and Caoimhin Kelleher are all recent graduates from the Liverpool academy.

The Reds’ youth stars are housed in an integrated setup at the club’s Kirby training base.
