Liverpool handed ‘big boost’ after Man City hit by new injury ‘blow’ – pundit

Liverpool have been handed a “big boost” in their hunt for the Premier League title following an injury to John Stones.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s “blow”.

Stones, 27, left England duty and returned to Man City after he pulled out of the warm-up before his country’s 2-1 victory over Switzerland on Saturday (26 March).

He joins Ruben Diaz on the sidelines with City now potentially missing two key defenders ahead of their crunch game against Liverpool on 10 April.

McAvennie insists Liverpool’s attackers will be relishing the chance to take on a weaker Man City defence.

“It’s a blow for Stones but it’s a big boost for Liverpool,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They are going to be up for that game and any weakness Man City show, Liverpool are going to go for it.

“Stones hasn’t been that big of a player this season but he’s come back in recent weeks.

“We know how good of a defender he is so City will be hoping he’s fit.

“Liverpool are going to arrive with a full-strength attack and they will have a spring in their step if they see any of the key players missing.”

Stones has played the full 90 minutes of City’s last three Premier League games.

Liverpool and Man City drew 2-2 when they met at Anfield on 3 October.
