Liverpool handed significant Thiago boost as picture emerges from training ground – pundit
Paul Robinson has insisted Thiago’s return to training will give Liverpool a major boost ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 30-year-old was in “outstanding” form before being sidelined by a positive Covid test.
Thiago took to Twitter on Sunday (26 December) to confirm he had tested negative for Covid after missing the last two games.
Mohamed Salah also posted a picture of Thiago back at the Reds’ Kirkby training ground on the same day.
Robinson suggested the Brazilian could step straight back into the starting XI against Leicester today (28 December).
“He was playing outstandingly well,” Robinson told Football Insider’s Dylan Childs.
“Liverpool have really impressed me this season with the way they’ve played, especially Thiago.
“I think he’s the player they expected they were going to get. We talk about players taking time to settle, I think he was one of those.
“He’s taken time to settle but I think we started to see the best of him. The game against Leicester really excites me. Six days ago they played in the League Cup.
“Leicester were up 3-1, it finished 3-3. They’re two teams that can score goals. Leicester are struggling defensively while Liverpool’s front three, or front six, if you like, are outstanding.
“Thiago comes back into that, Van Dijk and Fabinho come back into that Liverpool team as well. They’ll be strengthened by those three coming back.”
Thiago has played 14 times across all competitions for Liverpool this season, scoring twice.

He started six successive Premier League games before going into isolation.
Liverpool drew with Tottenham in the league and beat Leicester in the League Cup in his absence.
