Liverpool handed title boost after ‘surprise’ Man City development – pundit

Liverpool have had a “worrying” start to the season but can take comfort from Man City’s struggles.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Liverpool were beaten 4-1 by Napoli in their opening Champions League game on Wednesday (7 September).

The Reds have also only won two from six Premier League games this season, with their most recent win coming via a 97th-minute winner against Newcastle (31 August).

Wenham insists Liverpool can expect Tottenham to cause Man City problems when those sides face off, meaning the gap can be closed between the title rivals.

“If Liverpool hadn’t scored that 97th winner against Newcastle then it would be a really worrying start to the season for them,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“In fact, it is a really worrying start to the season. They are already playing severe catch-up to Man City.

“Obviously, they will be pleased Man City didn’t take all of the points against Newcastle or Aston Villa, which was a surprise blow for them.

“The other positive for them is that Tottenham still need to play Man City and we have a really good record against them.

“We are their bogey team.”

Man City

Tottenham took maximum points from Man City last season, beating them on the opening day of the season before winning 3-2 at The Etihad in February.

Saturday’s game between the two sides has been postponed and will now likely not be played until after the World Cup.
