Liverpool handed triple injury ‘boost’ after ‘big’ update – Robinson

Paul Robinson has claimed Curtis Jones, James Milner and Roberto Firmino’s return to fitness is “a big boost” for Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England one said “a lot of improvement is needed” if Jurgen Klopp’s side are to make it into the top four.

Jones, Milner and Firmino have all been injured for the Reds.

In Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford, Jones made his return from injury as a second-half substitute.

As quoted by This Is Anfield (2 January), Milner and Firmino could return for this Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Wolves.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the news, Robinson said: “It’s a big boost because they are three big players for them.

“I did the Liverpool v Leicester game for 5 Live. I was not impressed. They were very fragile at the back. There were big gaps.

“Something needs to change because they are struggling right now. They need to get their players back from injury and get into a rhythm again. They look a shadow of the side they were last season.

“Those players returning will help, as will [Cody] Gakpo but I still think it is imperative that they sign midfielder in January.

“The back four has no protection. It’s becoming a real problem. They are not the Liverpool of old. A lot of improvement is needed if they are to get into the top four.”
