Liverpool have found answer to midfield problems amid ‘big’ Trent Alexander-Arnold claim – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Trent Alexander-Arnold could be redeployed in midfield for Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said that with the rebuild needed at Anfield, there will be a lot of competition in the midfield next season.

The 2-2 draw with league leaders Arsenal last week (9 April), saw the 24-year-old used a more of an inverted full-back, often pushing alongside Fabinho as a second option in the deeper midfield position.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (10 April), Jurgen Klopp said it was a “big step” to use the right-back in that position against the Gunners.

Klopp added that they will need to “get used to” utilising the England international in that position more often.

When asked if Liverpool will use the defender in midfield more often, Hutton told Football Insider:He might.

I think when you see him in those situations in his ability to find players, find runs, the passing that he is capable of, then of course he could do that.

Do I see them doing that in the long run? Probably not.

Can he get better 1v1 defending, being more aware? Of course he can. You can train to be better at that.

Liverpool

I think Liverpool where they are trying to go, the targets that they might have, there will be a lot of competition for him in that position.

I think he would have to play in that position for a number of games and if he really flourishes then I do not see why he wouldn’t play there.
