Liverpool have gone ‘too early’ with Arne Slot contract, ‘he didn’t do much last season’
Liverpool have been told to bide their time regarding Arne Slot’s new contract due to their current form.
The Reds lost three games in a row before the international break, their worst run since back in April 2023 under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool spent heavily over the summer to improve their forward line, bringing in the likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz.
However, they are now trailing Arsenal in the Premier League title race, as they aim to retain the trophy they won last year.

Liverpool should wait until results improve to negotiate with Arne Slot
Last week, it was revealed that Liverpool have made Slot’s new contract a priority, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2027.
However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the Reds have gone too early in terms of offering their manager an extension.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Slot didn’t do much last season apart from inheriting a team that Klopp had left.
Wyness added that negotiations over the 47-year-old’s new deal should slow down until Liverpool’s results turn around.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “If you look at his season last season, he basically didn’t do much apart from inherit the team that Klopp had left him.
“We know there were no transfers and we’ve seen some question marks around some of these new incomings this season. I thought that they would have been speaking to him around the end of this season if things had gone well.
“He’s got another two years left on his contract, so if I’d been in Fenway’s position, I would have waited a little bit longer before any of these announcements were going to be made. It seems a bit premature.
“They’ve got to see a lot of these big, big expenditure players settle in and start producing the form that they need. I know Liverpool fans will be desperately waiting for this weekend and hope their team can start to turn around their form.
“So, yeah, I just think it was a little bit hasty, and we may just see that pace of that negotiation slowing slightly until the results turn around.”
Arne Slot’s contract talk could drag on at Liverpool
Liverpool are adamant that they want to tie Slot down to a new deal as soon as possible, despite the recent poor form.

However, Wyness believes that negotiations like these can sometimes drag on, and that could be the case again in this situation.
He said: “These things can suddenly drag on mysteriously. Will Liverpool give him a vote of confidence straight away?
“There are some very clever people behind the scenes at Liverpool with Michael Edwards, etc. Let’s just wait and see how quickly this gets done, because I’ve got a feeling they might just want to wait a little bit.
“If the form turns around, then by Christmas, maybe there will be some movement on that. But as I say, these things can mysteriously drag on.”
