Liverpool have just completed ‘great’ signing amid Romeo Lavia ‘bidding war’ claim
Liverpool have been told not to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has urged the Reds to avoid a transfer battle in their attempts to sign Lavia as Jurgen Klopp’s side needs multiple acquisitions.
Football Insider revealed last week that Liverpool do not want to be dragged into a bidding war with Chelsea or the Premier League elite over the signing of Lavia.
The Reds have had contact with Lavia’s representatives but competition for his signature could make a deal difficult.
Lavia’s current contract at Southampton runs until 2027 after he joined last summer (2022) from Man City but The Cityzens have a buy-back clause worth £40million for the midfielder which becomes active in 2024.
With a likely move on the cards for Lavia in the summer transfer window, Hutton has advised Liverpool against joining a transfer battle to sign the promising midfielder.
“Liverpool staying away from a transfer battle is the right call,” He told Football Insider.
“They need more than just more or two bodies, which doesn’t make it ideal to get dragged into a bidding war.

“I think they will send a transfer proposal to Southampton, but if that’s not accepted then I think they will move on to other targets.
“It was great for Liverpool signing MacAllister, and if they can get two more bodies in, then they will have been successful in this transfer window.”
