Liverpool have ‘unlimited’ potential as £40m-plus talks reported – pundit
Alex McLeish has tipped Liverpool to agree a hugely lucrative new shirt sponsorship deal after their recent success.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager predicted firms would be desperate to get their brand onto the Reds’ shirts.
As reported by the Athletic on Monday (18 April), Liverpool have held talks over a new shirt sponsor to replace Standard Chartered from the 2023/24 season.
The Reds’ current deal is reportedly worth £40million-a-year but Liverpool are looking for an agreement in excess of that.
McLeish insisted the Reds would have “unlimited” potential in terms of options they could go with.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You would think that Liverpool could demand any of the top firms in the world.
“They would all want to have their name on the Liverpool shirt. I don’t think there’s a limit for Liverpool, it’s unlimited. There are a few other teams in that category as well that sponsors want to get associated with.
“So if Liverpool are thinking they’re changing then Standard Chartered will be gutted.
“But equally, they can probably demand much higher than they’re getting just now. They’ve come such a long way.”
Standard Chartered took over as Liverpool’s sponsors in 2010 in a deal worth a reported £20million.
Their last extension was announced in May 2018, with the value of the deal said to have doubled.

Since 2010, Liverpool have won the Premier League, Champions League, the Club World Cup, European Super Cup and two League Cups.
They currently sit one point behind Manchester City in the title race.
