Liverpool hold ‘behind the scenes’ Adrian talks as new keeper lined up to sign – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted there are conversations going on “behind the scenes” over Adrian’s future at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said no team will be willing to “shell out” for a goalkeeper who doesn’t play.

The 36-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season after joining from West Ham on a free transfer back in 2019.

According to German outlet Bild (4 January), the Reds are interested in Hannover 96 keeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

The report claims Jurgen Klopp has now been given the green light to sign the 33-year-old who is out of contract at the end of the season.

When asked if Liverpool could look to make some money back on Adrian before his contract expires, Hutton told Football Insider: “If you bring a keeper in for free and he has not really played, I do not see how you can expect to be bringing in millions to the club.

“Of course you want to, everybody wants to bring in money. It is whether somebody is willing to shell out for him.

“It is one of those conversations that has to go on behind the scenes, is he desperate to leave? If so, who is willing to pay the money?

“If you have not been playing regularly and are not even getting on the grass it is very difficult to put a price tag on someone.”
