Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher breaks silence on David Coote controversy

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has addressed the latest David Coote controversy on social media for the first time since the damning footage emerged.

Coote, 42, has been suspended by PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) and is under investigation by the FA after footage of him slating Liverpool and former manager Jurgen Klopp leaked.

In the foul-mouthed video, Coote, when asked by a companion for his thoughts on the Liverpool game while serving as fourth official, to which he replied, “Liverpool were s***t.”

He also expressed his disdain for Klopp by saying, “C***, absolute c***.”

Coote explained why he felt that way, “Aside from having a right pop at me when I reffed them against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then just had a right f****** pop at me.

“I’ve got no interest in speaking to somebody who’s f****** arrogant, so I do my best not to speak to him.”

The referee initially denied the legitimacy of the video before making a u-turn and admitting it is indeed him in the footage.

Former Liverpool defender turned Sky Sports pundit, Carragher, 46, had been unusually quiet on the matter involving his beloved club.

He has now broken his silence, taking to X, formally known as Twitter, to hit back at a fan who had called him and Gary Neville “Fully fledged sellouts” for not speaking about it sooner.

It’s unclear what the full extent of Coote’s punishment will be as of yet, but it’s unlikely he’ll be welcome in Liverpool any time soon with some fans calling for him to be ‘banned for life.

Arne Slot’s impressive start to life at Anfield will no doubt ease the pain, with the Merseyside club sitting at the top of the Premier League table after 11 games.
