Liverpool ‘make Curtis Jones transfer plan’ as Tottenham offer readied

Liverpool are planning to turn down any formal approaches for Curtis Jones this month despite interest form Tottenham and other Premier League rivals.

The 24-year-old has established himself as a regular in Arne Slot‘s side and is extremely unlikely to be allowed to leave mid-way through the season.

Jones has made 28 appearances across all competitions, albeit only 17 of those have come from the start, and is regarded as an extremely valuable part of the squad.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Slot has no plans to weaken his squad after what has been a miserable spell for him.

Following the arrival of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, Spurs remain keen to strengthen their midfield with a more creative option, but will be made to look elsewhere.

Liverpool to block Curtis Jones joining Tottenham

Brown told Football Insider last month that Jones has become a crucial player for Slot and has put some of his teammates to shame with his hard-working displays.

That comes after Mohamed Salah hit out at Slot and Liverpool as he was left unhappy with the decision to drop him to the bench, despite his and the team’s recent struggles.

If Liverpool let Curtis Jones leave, they’d be cutting their own throat,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s an important part of what the manager is doing there, every time he plays he impresses and he’s the type of player who will give you 100 per cent every week.

“Liverpool in their current predicament need more players like that, not to throw them away.

“They don’t want to weaken their squad either because they will need everybody fit and available if they want to recover their form and league position.

“I can’t see a world in which they let him go, I think they’d be extremely reluctant to do that, especially to a rival club like Tottenham.

“He works hard, he knows and loves the club, and he can play as well he’s good with the ball at his feet. I think if any offer came in, Liverpool would turn it down.”

Tottenham laying groundwork to agree summer signings

Despite looking likely to miss out on a deal for Jones, Tottenham are planning for a busy end to the transfer window with further additions planned.

Brown told Football Insider on 19 January that Thomas Frank hopes to strengthen his squad with more than just Gallagher’s arrival in his sights.

Injuries to the likes of James MaddisonDejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus have raised further concerns, and they could now be forced into the market.

Frank’s position is under extreme pressure following Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham last time out, but the board are sticking with him as things stand.

If they can add to and improve their squad in the window’s closing stages, there is hope the new arrivals could contribute to a change in their fortunes.
