Liverpool make new Arne Slot sack decision after ‘surprise’ Jurgen Klopp twist

Jurgen Klopp continues to be linked with a stunning return to Liverpool amid ongoing questions surrounding Arne Slot’s position as manager.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that despite the speculation, there is “no chance” of the German returning to Anfield.

Instead, Liverpool are planning to stick with Slot despite a string of poor performances as they still feel he is the right man to turn around their recent fortunes.

This comes after Liverpool beat West Ham 2-0 at the weekend, putting an end to their miserable run of defeats and inspiring renewed optimism amongst the fans.

Liverpool make Arne Slot sack decision

Football Insider revealed on 24 October that Klopp is not considering a return to Liverpool and any suggestions he could take the reins are wide of the mark.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely alongside elite-level managers including Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Slot has retained the backing of the Liverpool board.

There’s no chance of Klopp going back, it would be a huge surprise,” he told Football Insider.

“I know it has been suggested a couple of times, but I don’t think that’s a possibility, largely because the Liverpool board are very much behind Slot.

“There’s no great desire to get rid of the manager. These results have come as a bit of a shock to the system at Liverpool, but nobody’s above a poor run.

“It’s easy to get carried away with things like this, they’ve been brought back down to earth, but they’re backing the manager to turn things around.

“West Ham was a great fixture for them. It’s still one they had to come through and win, but it was a good platform for them to bounce back and restore some good feeling.

“So no, any talk about Klopp coming back would be a surprise because by all accounts, Slot will remain their manager for the foreseeable future.”

Liverpool make January transfer window plans

With the expectation now that Slot will remain in his role as Liverpool manager, the Reds have set their sights on strengthening in the transfer window.

One player who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield is Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, who is high on Slot’s list of targets.

Football Insider revealed on 13 October that Liverpool are the front-runners for Semenyo despite interest from elsewhere thanks to Richard Hughes’ links to Bournemouth.

The Ghana international has a release clause with the value set at £65million in the January window, and will drop further in the summer, inspiring intense interest.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider last month that Bournemouth are bracing for offers for Semenyo as Man United and Tottenham joined the race.
