Liverpool may be set for ‘massive disappointment after Man City reveal – pundit
Man City’s failure in the Champions League could inspire them to clinch the Premier League title ahead of Liverpool and crush their dream of winning a historic quadruple, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-City and England defender claimed Liverpool’s season will be a “massive disappointment” if they finish with just the EFL Cup.
Man City can only win the Premier League after their dramatic 6-5 aggregate loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night (4 May).
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News after the game, Pep Guardiola admitted he was unsure how the nature of the defeat could affect his squad.
Liverpool could leapfrog City in the Premier League table on Saturday (7 May) when they face Tottenham while Guardiola’s side welcome Newcastle United the next day.
“It goes one way or the other,” Mills told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“This could drive them on to be the absolute best that they can be and they say ‘We have to win the Premier League now because we can’t win anything else. We have to get back to it and win this Premier League because we haven’t got where we want to be in the Champions League’.
“It is the only trophy they can win. Similarly, if Liverpool only win one trophy from this season when they’ve played in every single game and you can almost say they are in the final of the Premier League because there are two teams going head to head.

“It’s like if Usain Bolt got to the 100m final, 200m final and the 4x100m relay final and he doesn’t win any of them it’s a massive disappointment and you have to consider it as a failure.
“Once you get to finals and are this good, you are expected to win. Maybe not all three but you’ve got to win two, surely.”
In other news, Kieran Maguire has revealed the Liverpool owners have caused ‘huge damage’ as the Government is set to intervene.
