Liverpool must sell Mohamed Salah now as ‘crazy’ development slammed – pundit

Liverpool should sell Mohamed Salah this summer (2022) if he won’t sign a new contract.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the attacker’s future.

According to The Athletic‘s James Pearce (1 June), Salah, 29, will leave Liverpool next summer unless he receives a “significantly improved” contract offer.

It was also claimed the Egypt international would prefer a move to another Premier League club next year if he cannot agree new terms.

With Salah out of contract at the end of the 2022-23 season, McAvennie insists Liverpool would be better off cashing in on their star man if he won’t accept a pay rise.

“If he’s not staying, you have to sell him.” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think that would be right. He came out of nowhere and made his name at Liverpool.

“He has won a lot of medals and he has done brilliantly for Liverpool. But if he is to go, surely he would think ‘I want to give them a bit of money’.

“Obviously this is all about money because he isn’t taking the pay rise. it’s crazy, I don’t get all of this.

“It’s going to be a hard year for him if he runs his contract down. The fans will love him and then you don’t know how they will react.

“I think if he went now it would be better because at least the club can get some money.”

Liverpool

Salah finished as Liverpool’s top scorer in the 2021-22 season, bagging 31 goals in 51 total outings.

He has now scored 156 goals for the club.

In other news, Liverpool have been tipped by one pundit to sign Robert Lewandowski after a “huge” development.
