Liverpool news: Ex-Premier League referee issues ‘quite brilliant’ claim as ‘excellent’ Anfield footage emerges

Keith Hackett has claimed the message sent by Liverpool to Ukraine ahead of their 1-0 win at Anfield on Saturday (5 March) was “quite brilliant”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee insisted the displays of solidarity to Ukraine after the Russian invasion last month were the highlight of the weekend.

All 20 Premier League clubs showed solidarity with the Eastern European countries.

At Anfield, there was a minute of applause ahead of kick-off and the Liverpool fans began to sing You’ll Never Walk Again.

The big screen also displayed the message ‘Football Stands Together’ during the applause.

Captains up and down the country wore armbands in the blue and yellow of Ukraine’s flag.

“I have to mention this, the way that the spectators and the players reacted to the Ukraine situation, as a lot of Premier League clubs did this weekend, was quite brilliant,” Hacaktt told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“In particular at Anfield, when they started singing You’ll Never Walk Alone was excellent.

“There was nothing better this weekend than tuning in and hearing the players, managers and everyone at one sending a message out to everyone.

“Liverpool people are pretty good at this sort of thing. You’ll Never Walk Alone was actually very appropriate. That in itself was excellent.”

Liverpool’s win over West Ham kept them within touching distance of league leaders Man City.

They are now six points behind Pep Guardiola’s men with a game in hand and 11 left to play.

In other news, it can be revealed Liverpool are on course to make a “phenomenal” £550million announcement.
