Liverpool could sign ‘ready-made’ Jordan Henderson replacement amid expert’s ‘100 per cent’ verdict

Declan Rice is the “ready-made” replacement for Jordan Henderson at Liverpool, according to Kevin Phillips.

The former Premier League goalscorer, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is “100 per cent” sure that Rice, 23, would be a success at Anfield.

Rice’s future has been the subject of great speculation this year, with West Ham set to miss out on the top four.

A source with knowledge of Liverpool’s recruitment told Football Insider (2 April) that Rice is Jurgen Klopp’s preferred midfield target this summer.

However, there is little chance of Reds owners Fenway Sports Group funding what would be an enormous deal.

As quoted by The Athletic (2 April), Hammers manager David Moyes said Rice is not for sale and is worth at least £150million.

When asked if Rice would be a welcome addition on Merseyside, Phillips told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “100 per cent.

“He is almost that ready-made player for Liverpool. He could be the next Jordan Henderson. Rice reminds me so much of him.

“I’m not suggesting Henderson’s time is up, no way. What better player to replace him in the long-term than Declan Rice though.

“He could step into that Liverpool midfield with no problems whatsoever. He has a bit of everything and that aggression I love to see. He’d have no problem playing there.”

Henderson put pen to paper on a new four-year deal at Anfield in August.

He has made 42 appearances across all competitions this season.
