Expert cites Marcus Rashford after new Liverpool reveal – ‘this is how they move forward’
Liverpool need only look to the example of Marcus Rashford to see how growing pains can affect a young player like Calvin Ramsay.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Ramsay, 18, signed for Liverpool from Aberdeen in a £6.5million deal back in June, but the youngster is yet to make his debut.
As quoted by club media last Friday (2 September), Jurgen Klopp revealed that the right-back is suffering from growing pains in his back but is close to a return to training.
Dinnery compared Ramsay’s situation to Rashford’s at United under Jose Mourinho and suggested that Liverpool should protect the player until his body stabilises.
“During his time at Man United, Jose Mourinho said that some of Rashford’s lower-back problems were related to growing pains,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“When the body has that huge spurt, the muscles and ligaments almost can’t keep up. During that period, there becomes a muscular imbalance.
“With Ramsay, that lower back becomes really weak and therefore more susceptible to injury with compression and rotational forces around the torso.
“It’s an idea to ease back and protect the player until the body stabilises. It’s almost a case of those muscles and ligaments realigning themselves and then the body can move forward.”

Ramsay featured 33 times in all competitions for Aberdeen in 2021-22.
Those appearances yielded a goal and nine assists.
