Liverpool news: Expert issues Salah contract claim after source’s ‘intriguing’ new update
Noel Whelan has urged Mohamed Salah to stay “fully focused” on winning the title with Liverpool as “speculation” over his future continues.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it appears there is a “long way to go” before the 29-year-old renews his contract at Anfield.
Salah, who is out of contract in June 2023, has netted just once in his last seven Liverpool games across all competitions.
As revealed by Football Insider (9 April), the winger has now indicated that he is willing to compromise on his £500,000-a-week wage demands in order to stay on Merseyside.
Speaking to Sky Sports (9 April), Salah refused to be drawn on a potential new deal – insisting it is a “really sensitive situation”.
Whelan urged the “world-class” star to leave the talking to his representatives.
“When you’re talking about big players like Mo Salah, there will always be things like this which hang over him,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“Whether it’s contract talks or something else, it’s always intriguing.
“The fact of the matter is that this is a massive contract. He’s been their star for four or five years now.
“They don’t want to lose him, but it seems that there’s a long way to go before anything is signed.
“When you have a world-class player like him, or Messi, or Ronaldo – there’s always speculation and talk. People want to know what’s going on.

“The best thing for him would be to leave these talks to the agents.
He needs to stay fully focused on bringing this title back to Liverpool, especially after the Man City game.”
