Liverpool news: Expert issues verdict on ‘superstar’ arrival amid Mohamed Salah claim
Alan Hutton has claimed Liverpool will not be forced into making a “superstar” addition this summer despite Man City’s mega-money capture of Erling Haaland.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested circumstances could change if the Merseysiders were to lose talisman Mohamed Salah, 29.
Man City, who won the Premier League ahead of Liverpool by a single point this term, have already confirmed the signing of elite forward Haaland.
Meanwhile, the Anfield side have tied up a deal for Portuguese youngster Fabio Carvalho, 19.
A recruitment source told Football Insider this month (9 May) that Liverpool have registered their interest in signing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, 22, after identifying him as a top target.
When asked if Liverpool will look to match the high-profile addition of Haaland this summer, Hutton told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge: “They don’t tend to go out and sign superstars like that.
“They’ve just gone out and got Carvalho – who is going to be a fantastic player. I think they’re quite happy to do deals like that. Jota, Mane, Diaz – are all examples of deals in that same bracket.
“Obviously there’s the Salah situation hanging over them. If he goes, I think they have to bring in a top striker.
“But I think the teams are still very closely matched. It’s going to be a great fight again next season.”

Liverpool can tie up a treble on Saturday (28 May) if they beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris.
The Reds have already lifted the FA Cup and League Cup this term.
