Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp told to stop ‘moaning’ after ‘unbelievable’ reveal – pundit

Jurgen Klopp needs to stop “moaning” about the hectic schedule Liverpool face around their Champions League semi-final, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender claimed changing Premier League fixtures would mean they are entering “murky waters”.

As quoted by the Guardian last week (12 April), Klopp called on his side’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United scheduled for 12:30 pm on Saturday 30 April to be moved.

The trip to St. James’ Park which is due to be broadcast on BT Sport is sandwiched between the two legs of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final with Villareal.

And Klopp insisted that made his side’s task “unbelievably difficult”.

Asked whether he thought the Premier League should intervene and change the schedule, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “No, not in the slightest.

“I know he’s moaning about that and we’ve seen it before when Spanish teams have played on a Friday night to help them out in the Champions League.

“You can’t go helping Premier League teams in domestic competitions because that’s the integrity of your competition. They can’t be seen to helping out Liverpool and not every other club, that’s not fair.

“If they do it for Liverpool they have to do it for every other team when there’s an FA Cup game or a cup game.

“People will say it’s a European semi-final, it’s different but these other teams are fighting to stay in the league, for them, that’s just as important. In fact, there’s probably more value in that.

“If you start moving fixtures at this start of the season you enter murky waters.

“We all know that if you’re successful, you have to play a lot more games. The other option is don’t be successful.

“Let’s not forget they called games off for covid when nobody had covid. Let’s remind ourselves that their fixture congestion is partly down to themselves. They could have played those games but they had all these false positives.”
