Liverpool news: Leeds employee issues unexpected title verdict after 6-0 humiliation

There will be “another twist” in the Premier League title race and it is up to Liverpool to “take advantage”, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed both Man City and Jurgen Klopp’s side will have to be “near-perfect” in what promises to be an “exciting” finish.

Liverpool cut Man City’s lead at the top of the Premier League to just three points with their 6-0 demolition of Leeds United at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference (22 February) as quoted by the Guardian, Klopp insisted there is “no chance to be soft” in their upcoming games as the Reds heap pressure on Pep Guardiola’s side.

Liverpool and Man City are set to face off at the Etihad Stadium on 9 April.

However, Whelan claimed the Merseysiders won’t be “counting their chickens”.

“Everything’s possible in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re playing against Tottenham or Burnley, everyone is fighting for something.

“Both teams are going to have to be bang on near-perfect between now and the end of the season.

“Man City are going to drop points. There are no easy games and there’ll be another twist in this title race, it’s just up to Liverpool to take advantage.

“It’s wide open up there again after looking back to a couple of weeks ago when there was a 12-point gap. Everyone said it was done and dusted, but there’s no way it’s as clear cut as that.

“Liverpool won’t be counting their chickens either. They’ve got difficult games coming up.

“It’s so exciting and exactly what we want to see in the Premier League.”
