Liverpool news: Luis Diaz may have thrown spanner into works after crunch talks update – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested the immediate impact of Luis Diaz may have thrown a spanner in the works of Mo Salah’s contract negotiations at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland international admitted Jurgen Klopp may consider letting a “big player” leave due to the Reds’ “excellent” recruitment.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Tuesday (15 March), Klopp insisted “all is fine” with Salah’s contract negotiations and that the “decisive parties are in contact”.

The 29-year-old and his representative snubbed Liverpool’s most recent offer and the respective parties are at a stalemate in talks.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Egypt international is looking for a £500,000-a-week contract and wants to stay in the Premier League if an agreement cannot be reached.

However, Hutton suggested the signings of Diaz and Diogo Jota may have weakened Salah’s negotiating power.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “What you have to look at with Liverpool is their recruitment has been excellent. You think of the likes of Jota coming in, Diaz coming in, they’re looking to the future.

“Does Klopp think he’s got enough that one big player could possibly leave? It would be a sad ending if Salah was the one to leave after what he’s done for the club.

“Obviously, the club likewise. They’ve given him the platform to show his talent. I’d like to think that Liverpool have made an offer that obviously they think is acceptable.

“From Salah’s side of it, he’s thinking: ‘Well, this is possibly my last big contract.’

He wants to maximise that as much as possible. I get it from both sides.

“You have to think if Salah does go, how much do they have to spend to try to replace those goals and energy that he brings to the team?

“It seems a tough place at this time. Liverpool seem like they have offered something that should be acceptable.”
