Liverpool news: Mohamed Salah saga ‘comes to a head’ after source’s Saturday update
Noel Whelan has urged Liverpool to make a decision on Mohamed Salah’s future before the beginning of next season as his contract saga continues.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 29-year-old won’t be allowed to “run down his contract” at Anfield.
A Liverpool source told Football Insider earlier this month (Saturday 14 May) that Salah is prepared to compromise on his previous demands of £500,000-a-week.
The Egypt international is out of contract at the end of next season and can reach a pre-contract agreement with other clubs in just six months’ time.
Salah claimed this season’s Premier League Golden Boot with 23 strikes and also notched the most assists in the top flight.
Whelan insisted Liverpool will “cash in” on the forward if he refuses to commit his future.
“It seems like this is all going to come to a head very soon now,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s been sat on the bench recently – is that just to rest him for the Champions League, or do we read more into that?
“I think Liverpool have got to make a decision this summer – certainly by the start of next season.
“Do they cave to his demands? Or do they put their foot down and say: ‘Look, we can’t give you that because it will hinder us in the transfer market.’
“They won’t allow him to run down that contract, I’m sure. If he won’t sign, they will cash in this summer.”

Liverpool face Real Madrid in the Champions League final this Saturday (28 May) as they vie for a famous treble.
Salah has netted eight goals in Europe this season.
