Liverpool news: Naby Keita deleted from website after bust-up

Naby Keita has been removed from Werder Bremen’s club site after his move from Liverpool further soured.

The 29-year-old’s Liverpool career was hampered by various injury issues, notably missing 18 games after falling during the squad’s pre-match walk as they prepared to face Man United.

Remarkably, he was also a prisoner of war for 24 hours while on international duty after an attempted coup in his home country of Guinea in 2021.

Keita was finally released by the club five years after Liverpool signed him for a then club-record fee of £48million in 2018.

Initial excitement at Bremen over the deal quickly soured when the central midfielder refused to play in their Bundesliga game against eventual champions Bayer Leverkusen in April.

Keita was subsequently suspended and barred from using the club’s facilities, with no sign of him returning to the squad.

The club have now decided to remove the image of Keita from the ‘professional squad’ section of their website, with his name and shirt number the only thing remaining.

Werder Bremen desperate to be rid of former Liverpool man Naby Keita

Keita has played just 107 minutes for the Bundesliga club across five appearances and doesn’t look likely to be adding to that any time soon.

According to German outlet Bild, the club thought they were finally rid of the midfielder after accepting an offer from Turkish club Hatayspor in September.

The Guinea international initially agreed to the deal, with Bremen still paying a portion of his wages, but then had a last-minute change of heart and decided to stay.

Despite his lack of game time, he’s still an important player for his country, starting in two of their three games at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
