Liverpool news: Pundit ‘amazed’ by Luis Diaz after journalist’s team news pre-Villarreal

Diogo Jota will understand if he is replace by Luis Diaz in the Liverpool starting XI against Villarreal, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Premier League goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Liverpool’s front five “have to accept” the rotation as they challenge on all three fronts remaining this season.

Jota replaced Diaz in the starting XI for the Merseyside derby on Sunday, with the latter a late substitute in the 2-0 win.

According to The Athletic‘s James Pearce (26 April), Diaz, Ibrahima Konate and Jordan Henderson are in contention for recalls to the starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side welcome Villarreal to Anfield in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Robinson heaped praise on Diaz for his “amazing” cameo against Everton.

“It’s not about keeping your place at Liverpool anymore, not when it comes to that front three,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“Klopp is just rotating that front five and picking players who suit the game.

“Diaz came on against Everton and was amazing. He’s been a revelation. He plays with such a confidence.

“If you are Jota and you’re replaced by Diaz for the semi-finals I don’t think you see that as being dropped.

“You are playing for one of the best clubs in Europe and when you are challenging for every trophy you are not guaranteed to play every week. They have to accept that they will not play every week.”
