Liverpool news: Pundit can’t believe Mohamed Salah could quit Anfield after ‘huge’ update

Alan Hutton has tipped Mohamed Salah to drop his wage demands and sign a new long-term contract at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland defender admitted the figures surrounding a possible new deal for the 29-year-old have been “through the roof”.

A Liverpool source told Football Insider on Saturday (26 March) that club chiefs are confident Salah will reduce his £500,000-a-week wage demands to sign a “huge” deal.

The Reds’ confidence is partly driven by a lack of clubs who could match what Salah is asking for in negotiations.

Salah’s preference is to remain at Anfield, with his current terms expiring in 2023.

Hutton predicted a deal will be agreed that keeps the Egypt international at Liverpool for most, if not all, of his playing career.

“Some of the figures that have been bandied about are through the roof,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“It’s like any negotiation; the club goes low, the player goes high and they meet in the middle. I think it’s going to be a case of that.

“There’s no doubt Mo Salah loves Liverpool, Liverpool love him, he’s been an unbelievable servant to the club. I would like to think that he’d probably want to see out the remainder of his career, or the bulk of it, at Liverpool.

“They’re always challenging year on year so I’m sure he’d want to be part of that. I think there’s probably a little bit of wiggle room within there.

“They’re probably going back and forth a little bit. I think it’ll get done. I think he’ll sign a new contract at Liverpool.

“It’s just about a little bit of wriggle room, getting to the matter and signing the deal.”
