Liverpool news: Pundit drops ‘crazy’ Alexis Mac Allister claim after source’s £60m offer reveal

Alan Hutton has suggested Liverpool may not be willing to fork out £60million for Alexis Mac Allister this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said that with the work the Reds need to do on their squad this summer the fee for Mac Allister might be too much of a stretch.

On 15 April, sources told this site that Brighton could accept offers of £60m for the 24-year-old as Liverpool and Man United target a summer swoop.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are set for a massive midfield rebuild at the end of the season and have made the World Cup winner a top target after dropping out of the race for Jude Bellingham.

Chelsea are also believed to be interested in the Argentina international, whose contract runs until 2025 and includes the option of a further year.

When asked if the Reds will be willing to fork out for Mac Allister, Hutton told Football Insider:It is still a lot of money.

Some of the figures that we are talking about now are just crazy.

He is a brilliant football player, he has just won the World Cup, he has been excellent for Brighton so I totally get it.

Brighton have done so well in the transfer market to unearth these players and sell them on for big money but £60m is a lot of money.

You think of the work that Liverpool are going to have to do in the transfer window, that could be a large part of their budget. But if they pay that they are getting a top quality player.
