Liverpool news: Pundit expects more ‘perfect’ signings after news on Mohamed Salah joining Premier League club

Alex McLeish has insisted Liverpool will struggle to replace Mohamed Salah even with a “perfect” recruitment strategy.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager heralded the Reds’ recent transfer record and insisted nearly all their signings have been a success.

Salah’s future at Anfield is under scrutiny, with Liverpool in protracted contract talks with the 29-year-old.

A source with knowledge of Salah’s situation told Football Insider (12 March) the Egypt international wants to stay in the Premier League if he cannot agree terms, even if it means leaving the club.

Despite the form of Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, Liverpool have bolstered their attack with the likes of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in recent windows.

McLeish hailed the Reds’ business but admitted filling the Egyptian’s boots is easier said than done.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Liverpool are very clever. I read an article about them and the partnerships they have with teams abroad. It’s nothing that gets in the press.

“They do their algorithms, they do the logarithms, they have perfected their ways of bringing players in. They know it’s very unlikely that any new signing’s going to fail. In that respect, they have that.

“But new players, new, young players, are going to have to go some way to emulate the likes of Mo Salah. They will want to keep him until he retires.”

Diaz has made an impressive start to life at Anfield after joining from Porto in January.

Meanwhile, Jota has scored 18 goals in 38 appearances during what is only his second season on Merseyside.
