Liverpool news: Pundit expects transfer twist after journalist’s update

Frank McAvennie has rubbished the idea of Liverpool having concluded their transfer business this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker is confident Jurgen Klopp’s side will add to their squad with more signings before the start of next season.

According to the Liverpool Echo‘s Theo Squires (19 June), the signing of Calvin Ramsay, 18, marks the conclusion of the Reds’ summer transfer business.

The defender joined Klopp’s side from Aberdeen for around £6.5million.

Ramsay became Liverpool’s third arrival of the summer, following the signings of Darwin Nunez from Benfica and Fabio Carvalho from Fulham.

When asked by Football Insider if the Reds needed to make any more signings, McAvennie said: “Do I believe [Jurgen] Klopp when he says he’s not signing anyone else this year? No, I don’t believe that.

“They won’t just buy for the sake of buying squad – that’s one thing they don’t do.

If a player becomes available that will add to the benefit of Liverpool and add to the playing staff and can come in like for like as somebody that drops out then they will buy him. There’s no doubt in my mind.

And because of the Champions League and Liverpool fighting for the Premier League, with [Erling] Haaland at Man City, as well, that’s made a big statement so I think Liverpool will have to buy again but I don’t know where.

Liverpool finished second in the Premier League last season behind Man City.
