Liverpool news: Pundit fumes at Jurgen Klopp-Pep Guardiola development – ‘He didn’t deserve that’
Man City’s Pep Guardiola should have won the Premier League manager of the year season for the 2021-22 campaign over Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Guardiola deserved the award for winning his fourth league title in five seasons.
Klopp, 54, was named as the Premier League manager of the season and the League Manager’s Association manager of the year last month (25 May).
That was before the final day of the Premier League season and the Champions League final when Liverpool still had a chance of completing a historic quadruple.
Eventually, they finished runners up in the league and lost the Champions League final 1-0 to Real Madrid and ended the 2021-22 season with just the FA Cup and EFL Cup.
“To get the Premier League manager of the year award, he didn’t deserve that,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“That should have gone to Pep Guardiola because he won the league.
“The other one, the LMA award, I think he did deserve that. He was challenging for four trophies, he definitely deserved that one for what he did.
“The Premier League manager of the year had to go to Pep Guardiola.”

Guardiola has won the Premier League manager of the year three times since taking over at Man City in the summer of 2016.
Only Sir Alex Ferguson (11) has picked up the award more times than the Spaniard.
In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued a ‘gigantic’ Liverpool claim as £400million-a-year talks are set to begin.
