Liverpool news: Pundit hails ‘incredible’ Salah after teammate’s phone call reveal

Frank McAvennie has hailed Mohamed Salah for helping Darwin Nunez settle in at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said giving advice to new, younger players should be “part and parcel of the game”.

As shown on Sky Sports (29 October), Nunez missed a big chance in the second half of the 2-1 defeat to Leeds United.

Speaking to ESPN Uruguay (25 October), Nunez said that Salah called him after his tough start at Anfield to reassure him.

Salah told the 23-year-old that he faced similar struggles when he joined in 2017.

McAvennie praised Salah’s actions but claimed players at every club should be acting the same.

When I was coming through the older boys always helped you,” he told Football Insider.

That was part and parcel. To get somebody like Salah talking to him, it will be incredible for Nunez. He will miss chances but that is alright. He will get more chances at Liverpool.

I think it is great. It should be part and parcel of the game, giving a bit of advice to new players. That should never come out of football.

Liverpool

You look up to the people that have been there, seen it, done it. It is part of the game that should never ever be taken out.

Well played to Salah because I think Nunez is going to be an absolute star. It is taking him some time to fit into the way Liverpool play but I think once he does he will be a star.

In other news, a pundit has told Liverpool to ‘sort it out’ as ‘huge’ footage analysed – ‘unbelievable’.
