Liverpool news: Pundit issues ‘100 per cent’ Premier League claim as Jurgen Klopp fumes

Paul Robinson has called on the Premier League to help Liverpool by delaying their kick-off time against Newcastle United on 30 April.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one is adamant the league should do more to help their sides succeed in European competition.

The Reds are currently scheduled to play Villarreal on the night of Wednesday 27 April and Newcastle United at lunchtime on Saturday 30 April.

As reported by The Athletic (14 April), Liverpool have officially for their game at St. James’ Park to be pushed back to later in the day.

It comes after Jurgen Klopp slammed the scheduling ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the Premier League should do more, Robinson said: “100 per cent, they absolutely should.

“Other leagues do it for their clubs. The Premier League need to do more to help these teams, without a shadow of a doubt.

“An early kick off on a Saturday is not ideal. Why not just have a later kick off. We know the scheduling is tough but there has to be wiggle room.

“I can understand the argument on both fronts. Liverpool are successful and Klopp knows that comes with a fixture pile-up. They know they have to play a lot of games. Klopp understands that.

“Moving the time of the Newcastle game is common sense though. Give them a little bit more time. I sympathise with Klopp in that respect.”
