Liverpool news: Pundit issues ‘100 per cent’ verdict after new twist in Bukayo Saka controversy
Alan Hutton has pointed the finger at technology after VAR was unable to check whether Arsenal’s first goal against Liverpool was offside on Sunday (9 October).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back conceded mistakes of this nature will always exist within football.
In a new twist, the Liverpool Echo reported (11 October) that Gabriel Martinelli’s opening goal against the Reds was unable to be checked by the VAR official due to a technical issue.
Bukayo Saka was believed to be offside in the build up to the goal but the flag stayed down.
The VAR official couldn’t reach a conclusive verdict as Saka wasn’t visible in any of the five cameras used to help officials at Stockley Park and they were unable to draw the virtual lines.
Liverpool went on to lose the game 3-2.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the news, Hutton said: “That is the thing with technology, it is not necessarily going to pick up everything.
“It might get 99.9 per cent but there are situations where it can’t cover everything.
“It is subjective a lot of the incidents. What someone else might think is a foul, I might not so it just depends who is reviewing.
“It goes back to when VAR was not even there.

“These things happen, mistakes happen and there is always going to be mistakes within the game, you are not going to eradicate it all 100 per cent.
“All teams are going to have to deal with, get used to and move on from it. It normally evens itself out over the season so I think it is just one of those things.“
