Liverpool news: Pundit issues Caoimhin Kelleher exit verdict after significant update

Caoimhin Kelleher should stay at Liverpool despite interest ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old is gaining “valuable” experience in the Anfield dressing room at present.

According to The Sun (13 March), Liverpool plan to block interest in Kelleher this summer after the shot-stopper’s League Cup final heroics last month.

The report claims Jurgen Klopp’s side plan to keep the Irishman for one more year before making a decision on his future.

Campbell claimed Kelleher should bide his time and leave for pastures new when the “right offer comes in”.

“I think Kelleher is a great goalkeeper,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s young, and goalkeepers can play on until they’re 40. So being in and around Liverpool right now, learning and winning – that’s important and so valuable for a player like him.

“Then, when the time is right, and the right offer comes in – he may feel like it’s time to move on and make a career.

“He’s proven to be a really good backup, and Jurgen Klopp trusts him. It’s a critical time in his career, but I think at this present time – he goes nowhere.”

As quoted by the Independent (27 February), manager Klopp claimed the youngster is “the best number two” in world football.
