Liverpool news: Phillips slams fans as controversial Mohamed Salah footage analysed
Kevin Phillips has slammed the supporters who shone lasers in Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s eyes during Egypt’s World Cup qualifier with Senegal.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner insisted “players should not have to deal with” such distractions when playing.
As shown on Henry Bushnell‘s Twitter (29 March), Salah had lasers pointed at his face when taking Egypt’s fourth penalty of the shoutout against Senegal.
The Premier League’s top scorer missed from the spot in a moment which allowed Senegal to book their place at Qatar.
Phillips fears not a lot can be done to stop such events recurring in the future.
“How can you search everybody’s pockets? These lasers that are carried around are tiny,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“But it is not fair. Players should not have to deal with that.
“How do you stop it though? You could do a retake but let’s be honest, these people will still shine the lasers.
“I’ve never had a laser shone in my eye before I’m abut to kick a ball so I don’t t whether you notice it or not. I wouldn’t know what to suggest because it’s so hard to search everyone coming into a stadium.”

Salah has been the Premier League’s standout player this season.
He has contributed 20 goals and 10 assists across in 28 appearances.
