Liverpool news: Pundit issues ‘huge’ verdict on 23-year-old replacing Sadio Mane after journalist’s update

Chelsea would block Christian Pulisic from joining Liverpool this summer because of his “huge potential.”

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the prospect of the 23-year-old replacing Sadio Mane at Anfield.

Mane has just over 12 months remaining left on his contract with Liverpool and is widely reported to be interested in joining Bayern Munich.

According to The Times‘ Paul Joyce (5 June), the Reds have rejected an opening offer of £25million from the Bundesliga champions for their winger.

Bild’s Christian Falk claimed (5 June) that Liverpool are interested in signing Pulisic as a replacement for the likely outgoing Mane.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the latest, Robinson said: “Pulisic is a top player and he has been good for Chelsea.

“There has been a lot of talk and uncertainty around Chelsea but I cannot see them letting a player like that go. They will be shutting up shop and taking stock there.

“[Thomas] Tuchel will want to regroup ahead of next season. It would be a very difficult deal to do.

“At the end of the day, Chelsea want to be competing with Liverpool. You don’t sell one of your best players to your rivals if you want to do that.

“Chelsea have a knack of letting players go when their best years are behind them. I can’t see them selling a 23-year-old with huge potential to Liverpool, one of their rivals.”
