Liverpool news: Pundit rubbishes Roy Keane claim after source’s Mohamed Salah update

Kevin Phillips is adamant Mohamed Salah’s contract negotiations with Liverpool are stalling over money despite Roy Keane suggesting otherwise.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner questioned why the 29-year-old would want to leave Anfield with only Manchester City “on Liverpool’s level right now.”

Salah has just over 12 months remaining on his contract on Merseyside.

A Liverpool source told Football Insider (9 April) that the forward has indicated he is willing to compromise on his wage demands.

However, speaking os Sky Sports (10 April), Roy Keane questioned whether money is the true stumbling block in talks.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Keane’s comments, Phillips said: “No, I think it is about money to be honest.

“The majority of the time it boils down to money in talks like this. I bet they are only arguing over a nominal amount in relative terms. It wouldn’t surprise me if it is something daft.

“Both sides are clearly being stubborn. From my experience, negotiations can drag on for a long time when stubborn parties are involved. This could roll on too long.

“It will be down to money though. Why would you want to leave Liverpool? Where would you go? Only Man City are on Liverpool’s level right now. It’s about money.”
