Sadio Mane: Pundit slams ’embarrassing’ Liverpool controversy as footage analysed

Paul Robinson has pointed the finger at Everton’s Mason Holgate for his reaction to an altercation with Liverpool winger Sadio Mane on Sunday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed Holgate’s actions in the first half were “embarrassing.”

Sadio Mane was involved in two incidents in quick succession after players from both sides argued in the first half.

As shown on Sky Sports (24 April), Mane pushed Allan moments before putting his finger into the face of Mason Holgate.

The 25-year-old Toffees centre-back raced over to referee Stuart Attwell but non of the officials deemed the incidents worthy of a red card.

However, Mane did receive a yellow card for his actions.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the incidents, Robinson said: “There was a lot of petulance in the game.

“You look at Sadio Mane putting his finger in Holgate’s face. The way Holgate reacted was embarrassing though. He will watch that back and cringe.

“Players were trying to get each other booked and sent off. It was childish and it was petulant.

“Everton had a game plan and executed it very well. They were there to disrupt Liverpool and stop the flow.

“In the first half they did it very well. They deserve a lot of credit. There were certain situations were Everton tried it on but that was there game plan.”
