Liverpool news: Pundit suggests real reason for Jurgen Klopp red card after FA update

Frank McAvennie has suggested referee Anthony Taylor was “trying to make a name for himself” by sending off Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said that managers should not be given touchline bans for minor incidents.

On 18 October, an FA Spokesperson confirmed that Klopp has been charged with improper conduct in the 1-0 win over Man City last week (16 October).

As reported by the Mirror (21 October), Klopp has accepted the charge and an FA disciplinary commission will meet early next week to decide on an appropriate penalty for the Reds boss.

The German accepted the charge and provided an explanation for his behaviour, meaning he is unlikely to face a one game suspension, one of the potential punishments for the breach.

McAvennie insisted Klopp is not deserving of a ban.

The linesman was two yards away from the foul and never gave it,” he told Football Insider.

That is my problem with referees. I would not be surprised if the referee was just trying to make a name for himself.

It is unfortunate, it is a passionate game. You take that away from people it is nothing. I would not ask Klopp or anyone else to cut out the passion.

There is a line, I get it. You cross it you get sent to the stand. It is embarrassing.

You cannot suspend the manager. He needs to be there. He was shouting at the linesman and he has apologised, and quite rightly so. Klopp is just so passionate.
