Liverpool news: Pundit ‘wowed’ by Sadio Mane development

Kevin Campbell has lauded “unplayable” Liverpool star Sadio Mane after his move into a number nine role in recent games.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, tipped the 30-year-old to reach new heights as the “business end of the season” approaches.

Mane, who has notched four goals and one assist in his last three games, starred in a centre-forward role in wins over Man City and Man United in the past week.

The Senegal international has moved into a central berth to accommodate Luis Diaz’s introduction to the Reds’ lineup.

A recruitment source told this site on Sunday (17 April) that Liverpool are planning to offer Mane a new contract – but will not break the bank to keep him.

Campbell insisted the former Southampton man has been “as consistent as anyone” in the last two or three years.

He told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “They can take it in turns in that number nine role, can’t they?

“They can all play there. It’s an embarrassment of riches at the top end of the pitch.

“But with Mane, he doesn’t mind a physical challenge – and wow, he knows where the goal is.

“It’s a case of Jurgen Klopp shuffling the pack yet again and getting these dangerous weapons on the pitch at the same time.

“Mane has been as consistent as anyone in the last two or three years. The only one who has better numbers than him is Salah.

“We’re getting to the business end of the season now, and that’s when these boys tend to step up.

He was unplayable against City and against United.”
