Liverpool news: Robinson slams Premier League after key decision made

Paul Robinson has suggested Liverpool and other English clubs should push football authorities to copy the World Cup’s approach to stoppage time.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said there is no justification for not playing more added time in the Premier League.

FIFA referees have adopted a stricter approach to adding on wasted time during World Cup matches.

According to the Daily Mail (24 November), Premier League referees will not follow suit and will ignore suggestions to do so.

There is said to have been no talks between officials and the Professional Game Match Officials Limited regarding a change of approach.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the decision, Robinson said: “It is just about honesty. If the time is there to be added on, why are the Premier League referees not adding it on?

“It should be 30 seconds for every substitute, time for injury stoppages and time wasting.

“Look, we do not get enough injury time in the Premier League. I do not see why they cannot use it in the Premier League. What is the justification for it? If the game has six, seven or eight minutes of stoppages, it should be added onto the end of the game.

“Referees just seem to play as much time as they want. The standard just seems to be four minutes in the Premier League.”
