Liverpool news: Sadio Mane told to ‘shut it’ after ‘disrespectful’ reveal – Whelan

Sadio Mane “needs to keep his mouth shut” or risk upsetting the Liverpool faithful as he pushes for an exit, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, implored the 30-year-old to leave his potential Bayern Munich move in the hands of his agents.

Mane is not out of contract until the end of the 2022-23 season but has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

As quoted by African football journalist Mansour Loum (3 June), the forward responded to a survey suggesting 60-70% of Senegalese people want him to leave Liverpool by saying “I will do what they want”.

According to The Times‘ Paul Joyce (5 June), the Merseysiders have rejected an opening offer of £25million from Bayern Munich.

Whelan insisted the Liverpool fans deserve “more respect” in the wake of Mane’s latest comments.

“He needs to keep his mouth shut,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s just got to leave it to the agents. There’s no need to force the move, the interest is already there.

“I think a little more respect is due to the Liverpool fans who have supported him all this time as well.

“Just let nature take its course instead of dangling a carrot to the media. We know you want to move.

“Just let the right people deal with the details and stop making silly comments. He could leave in a much better way rather than upsetting the Liverpool fans.”

Mane netted 23 goals in 51 games during the 2021-22 campaign.

Liverpool paid Southampton a reported £34million fee to sign the winger in 2016.
