Liverpool open talks over Ibrahima Konate deal – sources
Liverpool have opened preliminary talks with Ibrahima Konate over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer of 2026, and the Premier League giants are now looking to extend that and are confidence of doing so.
Konate has turned his Liverpool career around after falling out of the starting lineup towards the end of Jurgen Klopp’s era.
The centre-back also started the first match of the current Premier League campaign on the bench, but has since worked his way back into the team.
Arne Slot had misgivings about Konate after pre-season, and selected Jarell Quansah ahead of him for the season opener against Ipswich, but has been won over by the Frenchman’s growing authority alongside the imperious Virgil van Dijk.
The two men have become Slot’s preferred centre-back pairing for this campaign since then, with Konate starting all six of Liverpool’s most recent Premier League outings.
Liverpool have been impressed by Ibrahima Konate’s performances
Konate has played his way into Slot’s long-term plans with his performances this season, having scored two goals and provided one assist this season.
The Reds have kept four clean sheets this season in the league, with Konate boasting a 63% tackle success rate.
The France international has made 24 clearances and has won 36 duels so far in this campaign.

The partnership between Konate and Van Dijk has proven to be successful so far, with Liverpool boasting the best defensive record in the Premier League.
The Reds head into the current international break as league leaders with a one-point gap over Man City and Arsenal.
