‘Liverpool praying over Ibrahima Konate injury’ after Arne Slot bombshell

Liverpool fans have been left feeling furious with the club’s owners after Arne Slot revealed Joe Gomez will miss most of the rest of the season.

The 27-year-old suffered a hamstring injury during his return to football against Plymouth Argyle on 9 February in the FA Cup, and now Slot has provided a negative update on the severity of that.

During his pre-match press conference the Slot confirmed the bombshell.

“It’s a big blow for Joe and for us,” he said. “He will miss large parts of the end of the season, but we expect him to be back in the final phase of the season.”

Liverpool will also be without Cody Gakpo for the near future, with the Reds set for a busy period of Premier League fixtures.

Slot’s men will face Aston Villa on Wednesday (19 February) before going on to play Man City on Sunday (23 February).

Liverpool have only three senior centre-backs

The England international is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines now, with Slot even admitting that Gomez “might” require surgery to fix the situation.

The situation has left Slot short of centre-back options for the rest of the season, with Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Jarell Quansah as his main first-team players.

Any further injuries or suspensions would stretch that even further, which has become a cause for concern to supporters.

Liverpool owners slammed for failing to back Arne Slot

Liverpool fans have questioned the board and why they didn’t sign a further defensive cover during the January transfer window.

Gomez has already missed a large chunk of the season due to injury, having been limited to just 10 starts throughout this campaign.

The lack of players available is concerning to fans given Liverpool remain involved in three competitions this season, with fans admitting this situation was “entirely predictable.”
